📝 Paper 📝
Dry and airy. Tactile rustling. Nostalgic yet forever modern.
Released August 25, 2026

From the beginning, the intent of “Taxonomy of Earth” was not to restrict “taxonomy” to “nature.” It is in the nature of humans to take what’s available in the surroundings and create new things. Paper is one such thing.
Paper built civilizations. Paper bends time and location. Paper even brings back the dead; it can also make a living person cling to something already gone to such an extent, they might as well be dead.
Paper is power, but it’s also fragile. It has an airy volume, like lanterns blown to their maximum size to hold light. I also feel that paper is romantic, in the diligence-and-enterprise sense. Visions are brought to life through paper. It is nostalgic yet forever modern because of its practicality; those “smart” home appliances these days are oftentimes so stupidly complicated, I doubt paper will ever completely go away.
So, these are love songs for paper.
Cheers,
Echo

(1) Pulp mentality
Nothing wasted here.
Beat the scraps long enough and
they become a page.
(2) Origami
One crease learns the next.
A flat thing remembers wings
it dreamed while lying flat.
(3) I fold easily
Not exactly flawed.
Things willing to bend outlive
things that are rigid.
(4) Unwritten
Nothing here for now.
The surface hums like a room
before the guests come.
(5) Hold me up to the light
A secret message,
visible when between me
and candle you stand.
(6) Papyrus
Reeds sliced, laid crosswise,
pressed until the river’s grain
agrees to be script.
(7) Burning
Edge goes gold, then brown,
then a black lace of language
lifting off the shelf.
(8) Cut
The blade wants nothing.
It only asks: which half now
carries the story.
(9) Leaving a trail, leaving the trail
Torn scraps mark the woods.
They show the spot where I stopped
and walked off the map.
(10) Newsprint fingers
Yesterday comes off
from my skin–a residue,
grey and soft like smoke.
(11) Grain direction
Tear with, it goes clean.
Tear against, the fibers scream,
jagged and honest.
(12) The smell of paper
Vanilla and dust.
Lignin breaking down for years.
A book exhaling.
